Business Challenge
IMC mission is three-pronged - First, the establishment of a brand for South Africa which positions the country in terms of its investment and credit worthiness, exports, tourism and international relations objectives; secondly, the establishment of an integrated approach within government and the private sector to the international marketing of South Africa and thirdly, building of national support for the brand within South Africa itself. For this the IMC seeks the co-operation of government departments, public entities, the private sector and the non-governmental sector.
To achieve the above mission, IMC wished to develop a portal that would be the gateway for all its stakeholders to collaborate, communicate and access.

How we helped
Nihilent developed a Communication Resource Center (CRC), an intranet-based system (web) that can share information among various government departments and other stakeholders. Typical information sharing scenario was a web-based system being accessed by the stakeholders overseas based on the type of customer (like overseas consulates, Government Department in South Africa etc.), areas of System access were controlled.
The system was to source media coverage relating to South Africa, to source government departments' press releases and policy documents and to process these and draft responses in the form of approved press releases. It was supposed to facilitate the drafting of press releases by the newsroom and facilitate the timely approval process by stakeholders. In addition, the system was expected to provide a secure extranet environment where a closed group of users can access press releases and other information. Additional features include a calendar of relevant South African events taking place around the world, information of contacts, stakeholders and journalists.

Benefits delivered
This project was an excellent opportunity for Nihilent to show its capabilities in web development on Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server, ASP, Active Directory etc. The domain was Knowledge Management.
At the end of the deployment, a common web site was deployed to source media coverage relating to South Africa, to source government departments' press releases and policy documents & draft responses. It facilitated end-users for drafting of press releases, upload the same on the website by the newsroom and timely approval by stakeholders. It further established a secure extranet environment providing access to stakeholders such as overseas consulates where a closed group of users can access press releases and other information. It provided facility to publish a calendar of relevant South African events taking place throughout the world on the same web site. Internet access to contact information of organisations, stakeholders and journalists through implemented common website was another feature. It also created a common document repository for storing, sharing, versioning business documents such as press releases, issue information etc. With the developed interface, it facilitated automatic populations of document repositories with all the related documents from the Internet.
